Heart Lessons

June 29th, 2012

I am at the Sacred Grove.  I approach Wild Ma to say hello, and then Lover Ma – two vines intertwined, each lover inseparable from the other as they wind their way up their tree companion together.

"Go to Guardian, make offerings and quiet yourself," Lover says.  My heart is not quiet.

Guardian directs, "Speak what is in your heart."

"I don't know what to do when my heart feels hurt – when I am in the midst of confrontation."

She replies her usual answer, "Stay in your centre, speak from there."

"But I am not in my centre at those times.  How do I find my centre?  I do not understand this energy – confrontation, anger.  My heart gets confused, muddled... I end up feeling small, needy, frightened."

Guardian Ma pauses and says, "You and the Other are not speaking the same language in those moments. Your heart will never understand.  Just speak from your open heart.  It will penetrate.  Not surface emotions – do not speak from there. Drop down underneath that, below, to the clear open heart."

"But how?" my child-self demands. With a touch of compassion, Ma says, "Look for the portal inside yourself."

The mosquitoes are swarming.  I am finding it difficult to concentrate and stay in clear awareness.  They offer a teaching – this is the exact same challenge as staying centred in the midst of conflict and difficulty.

Ma picks up my ponderings.  "Have gratitude for the learning, child. These situations serve you in that way.  Now, go to the Lover and ask what's in your heart."

Approaching Lover, I offer cedar, and ask, "My heart does not know what direction to take."
She replies, "Love is not simple."

It begins to rain. The air is warm and a little heavy.

"Listen to your heart and be diligently true to it.  It will know. There will be no clear answers right now – just what is true in the moment.  Love is around the corner."

My mind becomes active. "Do you mean corner as in time or place?  How big is the corner?"
"Shhhhh.... Love is around the corner.  Just listen.  Be still.

Time to go now – go for your wisdom lesson."

I thank her and walk to Wild Ma.  Before I ask or say anything, she says, "Play. Make time to follow your spirit."

"Is there anything else?" I ask.  "Be diligent in all aspects of your life, including this.  Make time to play.

And now, time to go..." she says in a sing-songy voice.

"Is there anything else?  This doesn't feel so profound."  Clearly my child-self is still acting out. Lightly scolding me, she replies, "You didn't come for profound; you came for your heart.  Time to go."
