Lizard sits in the grass, looking like a small log next to the road that leads us to the forest. He is rather large and the first sighting I have had of a lizard here. Three people are unable to meet with us for our Saturday workshop. They are holding the energetic container across a larger geographical area today as we collectively do the work with the Plant Spirits.
The journeyers have been dreaming their allies. Some have had profound, or at least deeply connective, experiences. I explain to the students, “Our focus today is to take steps toward meeting the Plant Teachers in their own language and way of perceiving, rather than staying rooted in our own. In this way, we are working on re-building relationship and trust with the Plant Spirits.”
As we step into the forest, my throat begins to tighten as if filled with unspoken grief. I am uncertain whose energy I am sensing.
After walking the entire loop, with each student wandering off to their respective places in the forest, I arrive back at Forest-Edge Ma and Youngster. There are thirty minutes before students return from their individual journeys. I look at Youngster – her energy is subdued today. She seems to be seeking something... I reach down and touch her delicate vine and place the tip of her main branch next to an older dead-Ma that hugs her tree companion tightly. I don’t know if this is ‘right’ or ‘wrong.’ "Should I influence Youngster's path?" I ask Forest-Edge Ma, after-the-fact.
"You are the same – if it feels right in your heart, then it is right. Trust, trust, trust... You are one of us. We are the same."
Hummingbird makes her appearance. I hear her behind me, and see her shadow projected onto the tree in front of me. She dances for some time in nearby trees, occasionally landing on branches, peering about. I extend a heart-greeting and an ‘I-see-you.’ She then flies away.
I turn my awareness back to Youngster.
"If this new position is not for me, I will move. Trust."
When I ask Forest-Edge Ma for teachings, she repeats, "Live in your heart, live the teachings."
"How can I be of service?"
"This is the service. Live, be and spread the teachings. Trust, trust, trust. This is the work right now."
Slowly students begin to gather at the fork, and as they do, Hummingbird buzzes above my head, and Raven announces "it is time to gather!" to those who still remain in their forest perches.
Silently, once all are present, we turn as a group and walk mindfully back to the property. The winds begin blowing. Feeling winds move on my skin, I know they are speaking a story from the plants and trees and other ends of the planet... I hear simultaneous whispers from Storyteller and Youngster:
"Learn to speak your story through your heart, through feeling and sensation...
It is not enough to think it or realise it. It must live in and through your heart, a deeper language.
Speak your story this way to the winds. Become part of the story of everything around you."
